We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home.
We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in having strong families, stable communities.
We’ve built seven affordable homes for families in Independence County since our organization started in 2007!
Owning a home is an out-of-reach dream for many hardworking people in our community, and yet a suitable, affordable home is a fundamental need. Our goal is to meet local housing needs for the purpose of stronger families and a stronger community, one home at a time.
We do not give away homes. Our families pay for their houses two ways: first, through sweat equity invested in the building process (of their own and others’ houses); and second, through a low, zero-interest mortgage through our organization. These families, and their monthly payment, then help build additional houses for other families.
Become a homeowner:
Homeowners must be willing to invest “sweat equity” into building their home, and also pay a low, no-interest mortgage upon completion. Income guidelines apply. Contact to find out more.
Volunteer with us!
Our volunteers meet every Saturday to build houses. No specialized skills or experience are needed! All are welcome and it’s a fun, rewarding day. Plus there are donuts.
Buy some nails?
Sponsor a box of nails, a sheet of plywood, or an entire roof! Your donation can be through monthly automatic withdrawal, the contribution of raw materials, or by corporate sponsorship.
